St Anne Summary

St Anne, Illinois is a small village located in Kankakee County, Illinois. It is situated on the banks of the Kankakee River, approximately 60 miles south of Chicago. The village has a population of 1,845 people, according to the 2010 census.

History

St Anne was founded in 1854 by a group of French-Canadian settlers. The village was named after St Anne de Beaupre, a French-Canadian saint. The settlers were attracted to the area due to its fertile soil and abundant natural resources. The village was incorporated in 1858 and quickly grew to become a thriving agricultural community.
In the late 19th century, St Anne was a major stop on the Chicago and Alton Railroad. This allowed the village to become a major shipping hub for the surrounding area. The railroad also brought new businesses and industries to the village, including a flour mill, a brickyard, and a sawmill.
