Good Hope Summary

Good Hope is a small village located in McDonough County, Illinois. It is situated in the southeastern part of the state, about 25 miles south of Macomb and about 30 miles west of Peoria. The village has a population of approximately 500 people and covers an area of 0.6 square miles.

History

Good Hope was founded in 1836 by a group of settlers from Ohio. The village was named after the nearby Good Hope Church, which was built in 1837. The church was named after the biblical city of Beersheba, which was known as the “City of Good Hope”.
The village was incorporated in 1867 and was home to a variety of businesses, including a general store, a blacksmith shop, a sawmill, and a grist mill. The village also had a post office, which was established in 1868.
