Oakland County Summary
Oakland County, Michigan is located in the southeastern corner of the state and is part of the Detroit metropolitan area. It is the second most populous county in Michigan, with a population of 1,202,362 as of the 2010 census. The county seat is Pontiac, and the largest city is the city of Troy. Oakland County is home to many affluent suburbs, including Bloomfield Hills, Birmingham, and Rochester Hills.
History
Oakland County was established in 1819 and was named after the English county of the same name. The county was originally part of the Northwest Territory, and was part of the Michigan Territory when it was formed in 1805.
