Barry County is located in the southwestern region of Michigan, and is bordered by Kalamazoo County to the north, Calhoun County to the east, Ionia County to the southeast, Kent County to the south, and Allegan County to the west. The county has a total area of 576 square miles, of which 573 square miles is land and 3 square miles is water. The highest point in the county is located in the northeast corner, at an elevation of 1,092 feet. The county is home to several rivers, including the Thornapple, Rabbit, and Kalamazoo Rivers.

As of the 2010 census, there were 59,173 people, 22,845 households, and 16,717 families residing in the county. The population density was 103 people per square mile. The racial makeup of the county was 94.2% White, 1.7% African American, 0.5% Native American, 0.5% Asian, 0.1% Pacific Islander, 1.3% from other races, and 1.7% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 3.2% of the population.
The median income for a household in the county was $45,945, and the median income for a family was $54,845. The per capita income for the county was $21,945. About 8.2% of families and 11.2% of the population were below the poverty line, including 15.2% of those under age 18 and 7.2% of those age 65 or over.
Economy
Barry County is home to a diverse economy, with a variety of industries providing employment opportunities. The largest employers in the county are the Barry-Eaton District Health Department, the Barry County Sheriff's Office, and the Barry County Road Commission. Other major employers include the Barry County Community Mental Health Authority, the Barry County Community Corrections, and the Barry County Intermediate School District.
