Thrall Summary
Thrall is a small town located in Williamson County, Texas, United States. It is situated about 30 miles northeast of Austin and is part of the Austin–Round Rock–Georgetown metropolitan area. The population was 1,160 at the 2010 census.
History
Thrall was founded in 1876 by the International-Great Northern Railroad. The town was named after William Thrall, a railroad official. The first post office was established in 1877. The town was incorporated in 1910.
Geography
Thrall is located at 30°37'25" North, 97°17'17" West (30.623607, -97.288118). According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 1.2 square miles, all of it land.
Economy
The economy of Thrall is largely based on agriculture. The town is home to several farms and ranches, as well as a few small businesses. The town is also home to a few manufacturing plants, including a concrete plant and a metal fabrication plant.
Demographics
As of the census of 2000, there were 1,072 people, 393 households, and 294 families residing in the town. The population density was 890.2 people per square mile (344.3/km2). There were 431 housing units at an average density of 359.2 per square mile (138.9/km2). The racial makeup of the town was 81.90% White, 11.90% African American, 0.09% Native American, 0.09% Asian, 4.90% from other races, and 1.12% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 8.90% of the population.
There were 393 households, out of which 37.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 58.2% were married couples living together, 11.7% had a female householder with no husband present, and 25.2% were non-families. 22.2% of all households were made up of individuals, and 11.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.73 and the average family size was 3.20.
In the town, the population was spread out, with 28.7% under the age of 18, 8.2% from 18 to 24, 28.2% from 25 to 44, 21.2% from 45 to 64, and 13.7% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 35 years. For every 100 females, there were 97.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 94.2 males.
The median income for a household in the town was $37,500, and the median income for a family was $41,250. Males had a median income of $30,000 versus $21,250 for females.
