Golinda Summary

Golinda is a small town located in the state of Texas, in the United States. It is situated in the county of McLennan, and is part of the Waco Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town has a population of just over 500 people, and is located about 20 miles south of Waco.

Geography

Golinda is located in the central part of Texas, in the county of McLennan. It is situated in the Brazos River Valley, and is surrounded by rolling hills and prairies. The town is located at an elevation of about 600 feet above sea level. The climate in the area is generally mild, with temperatures ranging from the mid-50s in the winter to the mid-90s in the summer.

History

Golinda was founded in 1881 by a group of settlers from the nearby town of Waco. The town was named after a local Native American chief, and was originally a farming community. The town grew slowly over the years, and by the early 1900s had a population of about 500 people.
In the early 1900s, the town was home to a number of businesses, including a general store, a blacksmith shop, and a cotton gin. The town also had a school, a post office, and a church.
In the mid-1900s, the town began to decline as many of its residents moved away in search of better opportunities. By the late 1970s, the population had dropped to just over 200 people.
