Castle Hills Summary
Castle Hills is a city located in Bexar County, Texas, United States. It is a suburb of San Antonio and is part of the San Antonio–New Braunfels metropolitan area. The population was 4,722 at the 2010 census.
History
Castle Hills was founded in the early 1950s by the Castle Hills Corporation, a real estate development company. The company was founded by two brothers, William and Robert Hixon, who purchased the land from the estate of a local rancher. The brothers named the development after the castle-like stone house that was located on the property.
The city was incorporated in 1952 and has since grown to become a thriving community. The city is known for its small-town charm and its close proximity to San Antonio.

Castle Hills is home to a variety of businesses, including retail stores, restaurants, and professional services. The city is also home to several corporate offices, including the headquarters of the H-E-B grocery store chain.
Demographics
As of the census of 2000, there were 4,722 people, 1,845 households, and 1,323 families residing in the city. The population density was 3,619.2 people per square mile (1,400.2/km2). There were 1,945 housing units at an average density of 1,478.2 per square mile (571.2/km2). The racial makeup of the city was 81.45% White, 4.45% African American, 0.17% Native American, 8.45% Asian, 0.02% Pacific Islander, 3.45% from other races, and 2.01% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 16.45% of the population.
There were 1,845 households, out of which 33.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 57.2% were married couples living together, 9.7% had a female householder with no husband present, and 29.7% were non-families. 24.2% of all households were made up of individuals, and 6.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.56 and the average family size was 3.08.
In the city, the population was spread out, with 25.2% under the age of 18, 6.2% from 18 to 24, 33.2% from 25 to 44, 24.2% from 45 to 64, and 11.2% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 37 years. For every 100 females, there were 94.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 91.2 males.
The median income for a household in the city was $54,917, and the median income for a family was $62,917. Males had a median income of $41,250 versus $30,000 for females. The per capita income for the city was $25,917. About 3.2% of families and 4.2% of the population were below the poverty line, including 4.2% of those under age 18 and 4.2% of those age 65 or over.
