Westport Summary
Westport is a town located in Essex County, New York, United States. The population was 1,312 at the 2010 census. The town is in the northeast corner of the county and is part of the Adirondack Park.
History
The area that is now Westport was first settled in 1797 by a group of settlers from Vermont. The town was originally known as "Westport Landing" and was part of the town of Willsboro. In 1817, the town was officially incorporated as Westport.
The town was an important port on Lake Champlain, and was the site of a major battle during the War of 1812. The town was also the site of a major shipbuilding industry in the 19th century.

Westport is located in the northeast corner of Essex County, New York. It is bordered by the towns of Willsboro to the west, Elizabethtown to the south, and Lewis to the east. The town is located on the western shore of Lake Champlain, and is part of the Adirondack Park.
The town has a total area of 39.2 square miles, of which 37.2 square miles is land and 2.0 square miles is water. The highest point in the town is 2,890 feet (880 m) above sea level, located on the summit of Mount Marcy.

Westport's economy is largely based on tourism. The town is a popular destination for outdoor recreation, including fishing, hunting, camping, and hiking. The town is also home to several marinas, which provide access to Lake Champlain.

The racial makeup of the town was 97.2% White, 0.2% African American, 0.2% Native American, 0.2% Asian, 0.2% from other races, and 1.9% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.2% of the population.
There were 545 households, out of which 28.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 51.3% were married couples living together, 9.3% had a female householder with no husband present, and 34.7% were non-families. 28.2% of all households were made up of individuals, and 11.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.40 and the average family size was 2.90.
In the town, the population was spread out, with 24.2% under the age of 18, 6.2% from 18 to 24, 25.2% from 25 to 44, 28.2% from 45 to 64, and 16.2% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 41 years. For every 100 females, there were 97.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 95.2 males.
