Mount Etna Summary

Mount Etna is a small town located in the state of Indiana, United States. It is situated in the northeast corner of the state, in the county of Allen. The town is located on the banks of the St. Joseph River, and is part of the Fort Wayne metropolitan area. The population of Mount Etna was 1,845 at the 2010 census.

History

Mount Etna was founded in 1837 by a group of settlers from Pennsylvania. The town was named after Mount Etna, a volcano in Sicily, Italy. The settlers were attracted to the area due to its fertile soil and abundant natural resources. The town quickly grew and by 1845, it had a population of over 500 people.
In the late 19th century, Mount Etna was a thriving agricultural community. The town was home to several mills, including a flour mill, a sawmill, and a gristmill. The town also had a blacksmith shop, a general store, and a post office.
In the early 20th century, the town began to decline as the population shifted to larger cities. The mills closed and the town’s economy suffered. In the 1950s, the town was revitalized when the Indiana State Highway Department built a new highway through the town. This allowed for easier access to Fort Wayne and other nearby cities.

Mount Etna is located at 41°10'25"N 85°14'17"W (41.173611, -85.238056). The town is situated on the banks of the St. Joseph River, and is part of the Fort Wayne metropolitan area. The town is located in the northeast corner of the state, in the county of Allen.
