Mooreland Summary

Mooreland, Indiana is a small town located in the eastern part of the state, in Henry County. It is situated along the White River, and is approximately 30 miles east of Indianapolis. The town was founded in 1837, and was named after the Moore family, who were among the first settlers in the area.

As of the 2010 census, Mooreland had a population of 1,093. The racial makeup of the town was 97.3% White, 0.7% African American, 0.3% Native American, 0.2% Asian, 0.1% Pacific Islander, 0.3% from other races, and 1.2% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.2% of the population.

Economy

Mooreland’s economy is largely based on agriculture. The town is home to several farms, which produce corn, soybeans, and wheat. There are also several small businesses in the area, including a grocery store, a hardware store, and a few restaurants.

History

Mooreland was founded in 1837, and was named after the Moore family, who were among the first settlers in the area. The town was originally a farming community, and the first post office was established in 1845. In the late 19th century, the town began to grow, and several businesses were established. In the early 20th century, the town was connected to the outside world by the railroad, and the population began to grow.
In the 1950s, Mooreland began to decline, as many of the businesses closed and the population began to decline.
