Posey County is located in the southwestern corner of Indiana, and is part of the Evansville Metropolitan Statistical Area. It is bordered by Gibson County to the north, Vanderburgh County to the east, Warrick County to the south, and White County, Illinois to the west. The county seat is Mount Vernon, and the county is named for Revolutionary War hero General Thomas Posey.
Geography
Posey County covers an area of approximately 437 square miles, and is mostly rural. The terrain is mostly flat, with some rolling hills in the northern part of the county. The Wabash River forms the western border of the county, and the Ohio River forms the southern border. The county is home to several small lakes, including Lake Wabash, Lake Posey, and Lake O'Neal.
The climate of Posey County is humid continental, with hot, humid summers and cold, wet winters. The average annual temperature is around 54°F, and the average annual precipitation is around 40 inches.

As of the 2010 census, Posey County had a population of 25,910. The racial makeup of the county was 95.3% White, 1.7% African American, 0.3% Native American, 0.5% Asian, 0.1% Pacific Islander, 1.2% from other races, and 1.0% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 2.7% of the population.
