Sabin Summary

Sabin is a small city located in Clay County, Minnesota. It is situated on the banks of the Red River of the North, and is part of the Fargo-Moorhead metropolitan area. The city has a population of 1,845 as of the 2010 census, and is the county seat of Clay County.

History

Sabin was founded in 1881 by the Northern Pacific Railroad. The city was named after the railroad's president, Henry Sabin. The city was incorporated in 1883, and the first mayor was elected in 1884.
In the early 1900s, Sabin was a thriving agricultural community. The city was home to a number of grain elevators, a creamery, and a flour mill. The city also had a number of businesses, including a hotel, a bank, a hardware store, and a lumber yard.
In the 1950s, Sabin began to experience a decline in population as people moved away from rural areas to larger cities. The city's population dropped from 1,945 in 1950 to 1,845 in 2010.

Geography

Sabin is located in Clay County, Minnesota, on the banks of the Red River of the North. The city is situated at the intersection of Minnesota State Highways 9 and 32. The city is located approximately 25 miles north of Fargo, North Dakota, and 40 miles south of Grand Forks, North Dakota.
The city has a total area of 1.2 square miles, all of which is land. The city is located in a flat, open area, with no major bodies of water nearby.
