Le Roy Summary
Le Roy is a small city located in Mower County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 1,845 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Austin, Minnesota Metropolitan Statistical Area.
History
Le Roy was founded in 1856 by a group of settlers from New York. The town was named after Le Roy, New York, the hometown of the settlers. The first post office was established in 1857. The town was incorporated in 1876.
Geography
Le Roy is located at 43°45′N 92°48′W (43.75, -92.80). According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 1.2 square miles (3.1 km2), all of it land.
Economy
Le Roy's economy is largely based on agriculture. The city is home to several farms, including a large dairy farm. The city also has a few small businesses, including a grocery store, a hardware store, and a few restaurants.
Demographics
As of the census of 2010, there were 1,845 people, 745 households, and 486 families residing in the city. The population density was 1,539.2 people per square mile (593.7/km2). There were 809 housing units at an average density of 674.2 per square mile (260.2/km2). The racial makeup of the city was 97.2% White, 0.2% African American, 0.2% Native American, 0.2% Asian, 0.2% from other races, and 1.9% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.2% of the population.
There were 745 households, out of which 28.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 51.2% were married couples living together, 9.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 35.3% were non-families. 30.3% of all households were made up of individuals, and 16.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.45 and the average family size was 3.06.
In the city, the population was spread out, with 25.2% under the age of 18, 7.2% from 18 to 24, 24.2% from 25 to 44, 24.2% from 45 to 64, and 19.2% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 40 years. For every 100 females, there were 94.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 91.2 males.
