History
The area that is now Holdingford was first settled in 1856 by German immigrants. The city was originally known as Sauk Centre, but was renamed Holdingford in 1887 after the Holding family, who were prominent in the area. The city was officially incorporated in 1891.
Geography
Holdingford is located at 45°37'17" North, 94°45'17" West (45.6214, -94.7548). According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 0.9 square miles (2.3 km2), all of it land.
Economy
The economy of Holdingford is largely based on agriculture and manufacturing. The city is home to several small businesses, including a feed mill, a lumber yard, and a grain elevator. The city also has a small retail sector, with several stores and restaurants.

As of the census of 2000, there were 1,093 people, 431 households, and 294 families residing in the city. The population density was 1,179.3 people per square mile (455.7/km2).
