It is bordered by Kandiyohi County to the north, Stearns County to the east, McLeod County to the south, and Wright County to the west. Meeker County was established in 1856 and was named after Bradley B. Meeker, a Minnesota politician. The county was originally part of the Dakota Territory, and was later part of the Minnesota Territory.
