Goodhue County Summary
Goodhue County is located in the southeastern corner of Minnesota, and is part of the Twin Cities metropolitan area. History
Goodhue County was established in 1853, and was named after James Madison Goodhue, a newspaper editor and politician from St. Paul. The county was originally part of Wabasha County, and was organized in 1854. The first settlers arrived in the area in 1854, and the county was officially organized in 1855.
The county was initially populated by immigrants from Germany, Sweden, and Norway, and the county was largely agricultural. The county was also home to several Native American tribes, including the Dakota, Ojibwe, and Winnebago.
