History

Dodge County was established in 1855, and was named after Henry Dodge, the first Governor of Wisconsin Territory. The county was originally part of the Minnesota Territory, and was one of the original nine counties established in the state. The county was originally populated by Native American tribes, including the Dakota, Ojibwe, and Winnebago.
The first settlers in the area were mostly of German and Scandinavian descent, and the county was largely agricultural. The county was also home to several small towns, including Mantorville, West Concord, and Claremont.
