Sunbury Borough is a small borough located in Butler County, Pennsylvania. It is situated in the western part of the county, approximately 25 miles north of Pittsburgh. The borough is bordered by the townships of Donegal, Brady, and Marion. The population of Sunbury Borough was 1,845 at the 2010 census.
History
Sunbury Borough was first settled in 1790 by a group of settlers from the nearby town of Donegal. The town was originally known as "Sunbury Crossroads" due to its location at the intersection of two major roads. In 1814, the town was officially incorporated as the Borough of Sunbury.
The town grew rapidly in the 19th century, becoming a center of commerce and industry. The Sunbury and Erie Railroad was built in 1854, connecting the town to the larger cities of Pittsburgh and Erie. The railroad brought an influx of new residents and businesses to the area, and the town continued to grow throughout the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

The racial makeup of the borough was 97.2% White, 0.7% African American, 0.2% Native American, 0.2% Asian, 0.2% from other races, and 1.7% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.9% of the population.
There were 745 households, out of which 28.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 48.2% were married couples living together, 11.7% had a female householder with no husband present, and 35.2% were non-families. 30.2% of all households were made up of individuals, and 14.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.45 and the average family size was 3.04.
In the borough, the population was spread out, with 24.2% under the age of 18, 7.2% from 18 to 24, 28.2% from 25 to 44, 24.2% from 45 to 64, and 16.2% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 38 years. For every 100 females, there were 92.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 88.2 males.
