Trevose Summary
Trevose is a census-designated place (CDP) located in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 4,890 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Philadelphia metropolitan area.
History
Trevose was originally part of Bensalem Township, which was established in 1692. The area was first settled in the late 17th century by English Quakers. The name Trevose is derived from the Welsh word tref, meaning "town" or "village". The area was known as Trevose Station until the early 20th century, when it was changed to Trevose.
Geography
Trevose is located at 40°7′17″N 75°3′17″W (40.121400, -75.054700). According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 1.3 square miles (3.4 km2), all of it land.
Economy
Trevose is home to a variety of businesses, including retail stores, restaurants, and professional services. The area is also home to several industrial parks, which provide employment opportunities for local residents.
Demographics
As of the census of 2000, there were 4,890 people, 1,945 households, and 1,323 families residing in the CDP. The population density was 3,717.3 people per square mile (1,437.2/km2). There were 2,039 housing units at an average density of 1,547.2/sq mi (597.7/km2). The racial makeup of the CDP was 94.2% White, 2.2% African American, 0.1% Native American, 1.7% Asian, 0.1% Pacific Islander, 0.7% from other races, and 1.1% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 2.2% of the population.
There were 1,945 households, out of which 28.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 54.2% were married couples living together, 9.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 33.2% were non-families. 28.2% of all households were made up of individuals, and 11.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.50 and the average family size was 3.12.
In the CDP, the population was spread out, with 22.3% under the age of 18, 6.2% from 18 to 24, 30.2% from 25 to 44, 24.2% from 45 to 64, and 17.1% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 40 years. For every 100 females, there were 92.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 88.3 males.
The median income for a household in the CDP was $54,917, and the median income for a family was $63,958. Males had a median income of $41,964 versus $31,964 for females. The per capita income for the CDP was $25,945. About 2.2% of families and 3.3% of the population were below the poverty line, including 3.3% of those under age 18 and 4.2% of those age 65 or over.
