Three Springs Borough is a small borough located in Huntingdon County, Pennsylvania. It is situated in the south-central part of the state, approximately 30 miles east of Altoona and 90 miles west of Harrisburg. The borough is surrounded by the townships of Shirley, Cromwell, and Dublin. As of the 2010 census, the population of Three Springs was 545.
History
The area that is now Three Springs Borough was first settled in the late 1700s by German and Irish immigrants. The first settler in the area was John Smith, who arrived in 1790. Smith built a log cabin and established a farm in the area. The area was known as Smith’s Settlement until 1820, when it was renamed Three Springs. The name was derived from the three natural springs that were located in the area.
In 1836, the first post office was established in Three Springs. The first school was built in 1845, and the first church was built in 1848. The first store was opened in 1851, and the first bank was established in 1853.
In 1854, the borough was officially incorporated. The first mayor was elected in 1855, and the first police force was established in 1856.
