Pomeroy Summary
Pomeroy is a borough located in the northeast corner of Pennsylvania in the United States. It is situated in the Susquehanna River Valley, approximately 20 miles south of Scranton and 40 miles north of Wilkes-Barre. History
Pomeroy was founded in 1845 by William Pomeroy, a local landowner. The town was originally known as Pomeroyville, but the name was changed to Pomeroy in 1851. The town was incorporated as a borough in 1875.
Pomeroy was an important stop on the Delaware, Lackawanna and Western Railroad, which ran through the town from 1851 to 1972. The railroad was a major factor in the growth of the town, as it provided transportation for goods and people.
Geography
Pomeroy is located at 41°25'N 75°45'W (41.4167, -75.7500). According to the United States Census Bureau, the borough has a total area of 0.7 square miles (1.8 km2), all of it land.
The borough is located in the Susquehanna River Valley, and is surrounded by the townships of Salem, Bridgewater, and Lenox. The borough is situated on a hill overlooking the Susquehanna River.

There were 745 households, out of which 25.3% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 44.2% were married couples living together, 12.7% had a female householder with no husband present, and 37.7% were non-families. 33.2% of all households were made up of individuals, and 16.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.30 and the average family size was 2.93.
In the borough, the population was spread out, with 22.2% under the age of 18, 57.2% from 18 to 64, and 20.6% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 43.4 years. For every 100 females, there were 91.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 88.2 males.
The median income for a household in the borough was $37,500, and the median income for a family was $45,000. Males had a median income of $35,000 versus $25,000 for females. The per capita income for the borough was $19,845. About 8.2% of families and 11.2% of the population were below the poverty line, including 16.2% of those under age 18 and 8.2% of those age 65 or over.
