Pine Glen Summary

Pine Glen is a small unincorporated community located in the western part of Schuylkill County, Pennsylvania. It is situated in the Mahanoy Township, approximately two miles south of the borough of Mahanoy City. The community is located along the Mahanoy Creek, which is a tributary of the Schuylkill River.

History

Pine Glen was first settled in the early 1800s by German immigrants. The community was originally known as “Pine Grove” and was later changed to “Pine Glen”. The name was derived from the abundance of pine trees in the area. The first post office in the area was established in 1845 and the first school was built in 1848.
In the late 1800s, the community was a thriving coal mining town. The coal mines provided employment for many of the residents and the town was home to several businesses, including a general store, a blacksmith shop, and a hotel.
