Milford borough Summary
Milford Borough is a small borough located in Pike County, Pennsylvania. It is situated in the northern part of the state, approximately two hours from Philadelphia and two and a half hours from New York City. The borough is bordered by Dingman Township to the north, Westfall Township to the east, Delaware Township to the south, and Milford Township to the west. The population of Milford Borough was 1,845 at the 2010 census.
History
Milford Borough was founded in 1796 by a group of settlers from Connecticut. The settlers named the town after Milford, Connecticut, which was the hometown of many of the settlers. The town was originally part of Dingman Township, but was incorporated as a borough in 1847.
The town grew slowly in the 19th century, but experienced a period of rapid growth in the early 20th century. This growth was due to the development of the Delaware and Hudson Canal, which ran through the town. The canal was used to transport coal from the mines in the area to the markets in New York City. The canal was eventually replaced by the Delaware and Hudson Railroad, which ran through the town until the 1950s.

The town is home to several popular tourist attractions, including the Grey Towers National Historic Site, the Milford Museum, and the Pike County Historical Society. As of the 2010 census, there were 1,845 people, 745 households, and 486 families residing in the borough. The population density was 2,621.4 people per square mile (1,011.2/km2). There were 809 housing units at an average density of 1,150.7 per square mile (444.3/km2). The racial makeup of the borough was 97.2% White, 0.7% African American, 0.2% Native American, 0.4% Asian, 0.1% Pacific Islander, 0.4% from other races, and 1.0% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.7% of the population.
There were 745 households, out of which 28.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 48.2% were married couples living together, 11.7% had a female householder with no husband present, and 35.3% were non-families. 30.2% of all households were made up of individuals, and 13.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.37 and the average family size was 2.93.
In the borough, the population was spread out, with 22.7% under the age of 18, 6.2% from 18 to 24, 25.7% from 25 to 44, 28.2% from 45 to 64, and 17.2% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 42 years. For every 100 females, there were 91.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 88.3 males.
The median income for a household in the borough was $41,250, and the median income for a family was $50,000. Males had a median income of $36,250 versus $25,000 for females. The per capita income for the borough was $20,945. About 6.2% of families and 8.2% of the population were below the poverty line, including 10.2% of those under age 18 and 8.2% of those age 65 or over.
