History

Meyersdale was founded in 1845 by John Meyers, a German immigrant. He purchased the land from the state of Pennsylvania and named it after himself. The town was incorporated in 1872.
Meyersdale was an important stop on the Western Maryland Railway, which ran through the town from 1871 to 1975. The railway was a major factor in the growth of the town, as it allowed for the transportation of goods and people.
