McElhattan Summary

Mcelhattan is a small borough located in Clinton County, Pennsylvania. It is situated in the north-central part of the state, approximately 10 miles south of the New York border. The population of Mcelhattan was 1,845 at the 2010 census.

Geography

Mcelhattan is located at 41°7'25"N 77°2'25"W (41.123611, -77.040278). According to the United States Census Bureau, the borough has a total area of 0.6 square miles (1.6 km2), all of it land.
The borough is located in the West Branch Susquehanna River Valley, and is surrounded by Bald Eagle State Forest. The borough is located along U.S. Route 15, which connects the borough to Lock Haven to the south and Williamsport to the north.

History

Mcelhattan was founded in 1845 by William McElhattan, a local landowner. The borough was incorporated in 1867.
The borough was named after William McElhattan, who was a prominent local landowner and businessman. He was also a member of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives from 1845 to 1847.
