East Bangor borough Summary
Bangor Borough is a small borough located in Northampton County, Pennsylvania. It is situated in the Lehigh Valley region of the state, and is part of the Allentown-Bethlehem-Easton metropolitan area. The borough is located along the Lehigh River, and is bordered by the townships of Lower Mount Bethel, Upper Mount Bethel, and Washington. The population of Bangor Borough was 2,845 at the 2010 census.
History
Bangor Borough was founded in 1816 by a group of settlers from Bangor, Maine. The settlers named the borough after their hometown, and the name has remained unchanged since then. The borough was incorporated in 1867.
The borough was originally a farming community, but it began to develop into a manufacturing center in the late 19th century. The first industry to be established in the borough was a paper mill, which was built in 1876. This was followed by a silk mill in 1883, and a brickyard in 1885. The borough also had a number of small businesses, such as a blacksmith shop, a general store, and a hotel.
Geography
Bangor Borough is located at 40°45'17" North, 75°14'45" West (40.754722, -75.245833). According to the United States Census Bureau, the borough has a total area of 0.7 square miles (1.8 km2), all of it land.

Bangor Borough is primarily a residential community, but it does have a few businesses. The borough is home to a number of small businesses, including a grocery store, a hardware store, a pharmacy, and a few restaurants. The borough also has a few industrial businesses, including a paper mill and a brickyard.
Demographics
As of the 2010 census, there were 2,845 people, 1,093 households, and 745 families residing in the borough. The population density was 4,072.3 people per square mile (1,571.2/km2). There were 1,164 housing units at an average density of 1,664.3 per square mile (642.2/km2). The racial makeup of the borough was 97.2% White, 0.7% African American, 0.2% Native American, 0.4% Asian, 0.1% Pacific Islander, 0.4% from other races, and 1.0% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.7% of the population.
There were 1,093 households, out of which 33.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 51.2% were married couples living together, 11.7% had a female householder with no husband present, and 32.2% were non-families. 27.2% of all households were made up of individuals, and 12.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.60 and the average family size was 3.17.
In the borough, the population was spread out, with 25.2% under the age of 18, 7.2% from 18 to 24, 29.2% from 25 to 44, 22.7% from 45 to 64, and 15.7% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 38 years. For every 100 females, there were 92.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 88.3 males.
The median income for a household in the borough was $41,250, and the median income for a family was $48,750. Males had a median income of $35,000 versus $25,000 for females. The per capita income for the borough was $19,845. About 5.2% of families and 7.2% of the population were below the poverty line, including 8.2% of those under age 18 and 8.3% of those age 65 or over.
