Arona borough Summary

Arona Borough is a small borough located in Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania. It is situated in the foothills of the Allegheny Mountains, approximately 30 miles east of Pittsburgh. The borough is home to a population of approximately 1,400 people, and is part of the Greater Pittsburgh Metropolitan Area.

History

Arona Borough was founded in 1845 by a group of settlers from the nearby town of Greensburg. The settlers were looking for a place to build a new community, and chose the area due to its proximity to the Allegheny Mountains. The town was named after the Arona Creek, which runs through the area.
The first settlers in the area were mostly farmers, and the town quickly grew to include a variety of businesses, including a blacksmith, a general store, and a post office. The town was officially incorporated in 1876, and the first mayor was elected in 1877.
In the late 19th century, the town began to experience a period of growth and prosperity. The railroad arrived in 1883, and the town quickly became a popular destination for tourists. The town also became a popular spot for summer homes, and many wealthy families built large homes in the area.
In the early 20th century, the town experienced a period of decline. The railroad was abandoned in the 1920s, and the town's economy suffered as a result. The population began to decline, and the town was unable to attract new businesses.
