Akron Borough is a small borough located in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. It is situated in the southeastern corner of the county, approximately 20 miles from the city of Lancaster. The borough is bordered by the townships of East Cocalico, West Cocalico, and Ephrata. The population of Akron Borough was 2,845 at the 2010 census.
History
The area that is now Akron Borough was first settled in the early 1700s by German immigrants. The first settlers were members of the Mennonite Church, and the area was known as the Mennonite Settlement. The settlement was named after the city of Akron, Ohio, which was founded in 1825. The first post office in the area was established in 1837, and the borough was officially incorporated in 1867.
The borough was originally an agricultural community, with many of the residents working on farms. In the late 1800s, the borough began to develop into a small industrial center, with several factories being built in the area. The most notable of these factories was the Akron Carriage Works, which was established in 1891 and produced carriages and wagons.

There were 1,093 households, out of which 33.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 57.2% were married couples living together, 9.7% had a female householder with no husband present, and 28.7% were non-families. 24.2% of all households were made up of individuals, and 11.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.60 and the average family size was 3.09.
In the borough, the population was spread out, with 25.2% under the age of 18, 6.7% from 18 to 24, 28.7% from 25 to 44, 24.2% from 45 to 64, and 15.2% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 38 years. For every 100 females, there were 97.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 94.2 males.
The median income for a household in the borough was $45,938, and the median income for a family was $51,964. Males had a median income of $37,500 versus $25,938 for females. The per capita income for the borough was $20,945.
