Akron Borough is a small borough located in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. It is situated in the southeastern corner of the county, approximately 20 miles from the city of Lancaster. The borough is bordered by the townships of East Cocalico, West Cocalico, and Ephrata. The population of Akron Borough was 2,845 at the 2010 census.

History

The area that is now Akron Borough was first settled in the early 1700s by German immigrants. The first settlers were members of the Mennonite Church, and the area was known as the Mennonite Settlement. The settlement was named after the city of Akron, Ohio, which was founded in 1825. The first post office in the area was established in 1837, and the borough was officially incorporated in 1867.
The borough was originally an agricultural community, with many of the residents working on farms. In the late 1800s, the borough began to develop into a small industrial center, with several factories being built in the area. The average household size was 2.60 and the average family size was 3.09.
