Vista Center Summary

Vista Center is a small borough located in the state of New Jersey. It is situated in the northern part of the state, in the county of Bergen. The borough is bordered by the towns of Paramus, Ridgewood, and Waldwick. According to the 2010 United States Census, the population of Vista Center was 8,945.

History

Vista Center was originally part of the larger town of Midland Park. In the late 19th century, the area was known as the “Vista” and was home to a number of farms. In the early 20th century, the area began to develop as a residential community. In 1922, the residents of the Vista area voted to secede from Midland Park and form their own borough. The new borough was officially incorporated on April 11, 1922 and was named Vista Center.

Geography

Vista Center is located at 40°58'45" North, 74°06'45" West (40.979167, -74.112500). According to the United States Census Bureau, the borough has a total area of 0.9 square miles (2.3 km2), all of which is land.

Economy

Vista Center is primarily a residential community, with no major industries or businesses located within its borders. The borough does, however, have a number of small businesses, including restaurants, retail stores, and professional services.

Demographics

As of the 2010 United States Census, there were 8,945 people, 3,541 households, and 2,541 families residing in the borough. The population density was 9,945.7 people per square mile (3,845.2/km2). There were 3,717 housing units at an average density of 4,093.3 per square mile (1,578.2/km2). The racial makeup of the borough was 87.2% White, 1.2% African American, 0.2% Native American, 8.2% Asian, 0.1% Pacific Islander, 1.3% from other races, and 1.9% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 6.7% of the population.
