Somerdale Borough is a small borough located in Camden County, New Jersey. It is situated in the Delaware Valley region, approximately 8 miles east of Philadelphia. History

Somerdale was originally part of the township of Gloucester, which was established in 1695. The area was known as “Somerdale” as early as 1777, and the name was officially adopted in 1891 when the borough was incorporated. The name is derived from the Somers family, who were early settlers in the area.
The borough was originally a farming community, but in the early 20th century, it began to develop into a residential suburb of Philadelphia. The borough was home to several factories, including the Somerdale Chocolate Factory, which was established in 1919 and operated until the late 1990s.

There were 1,845 households, out of which 28.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 44.2% were married couples living together, 14.7% had a female householder with no husband present, and 34.7% were non-families. 28.7% of all households were made up of individuals, and 11.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.50 and the average family size was 3.09.
In the borough, the population was spread out, with 22.7% under the age of 18, 8.2% from 18 to 24, 28.7% from 25 to 44, 25.2% from 45 to 64, and 15.2% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 38.4 years. For every 100 females, there were 93.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 90.2 males.
The median income for a household in the borough was $50,972, and the median income for a family was $60,938. Males had a median income of $41,964 versus $35,938 for females. The per capita income for the borough was $24,945.
