Mendham borough Summary

Mendham Borough is a small borough located in Morris County, New Jersey. It is situated in the eastern part of the state, about 25 miles west of New York City. The borough is bordered by Mendham Township to the north, Randolph Township to the east, Chester Township to the south, and Washington Township to the west. As of the 2010 United States Census, the borough had a population of 5,869.

History

Mendham Borough was originally part of the Horseneck Tract, a large tract of land purchased by the Dutch West India Company in 1647. The area was first settled in 1710 by a group of Dutch and English settlers. The area was known as Horseneck until 1749, when it was incorporated as a township and renamed Mendham. The name is derived from the English village of Mendham, Suffolk.
In 1857, the borough was formed from portions of Mendham Township. The borough was named after the township, and the name was officially changed to Mendham Borough in 1868.

Geography

Mendham Borough is located at 40°48'25" North, 74°37'45" West (40.806944, -74.629167). According to the United States Census Bureau, the borough has a total area of 4.2 square miles (10.8 km2), all of which is land.
The borough is located in the Raritan Valley region of New Jersey. It is bordered by Mendham Township to the north, Randolph Township to the east, Chester Township to the south, and Washington Township to the west.

Economy

Mendham Borough is a small, rural community with a population of just over 5,800 people. The borough is primarily residential, with a few small businesses located in the downtown area. The borough is home to several small businesses, including a bakery, a hardware store, a pharmacy, a bank, and a few restaurants.

As of the 2010 United States Census, there were 5,869 people, 2,093 households, and 1,637 families residing in the borough. The population density was 1,406.2 people per square mile (542.7/km2). There were 2,183 housing units at an average density of 522.2 per square mile (201.7/km2). The racial makeup of the borough was 94.2% White, 1.2% African American, 0.1% Native American, 2.7% Asian, 0.7% from other races, and 1.1% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 4.2% of the population.
There were 2,093 households, out of which 37.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 68.2% were married couples living together, 6.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 22.7% were non-families. 19.2% of all households were made up of individuals, and 8.7% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.81 and the average family size was 3.26.
In the borough, the population was spread out, with 27.2% under the age of 18, 5.2% from 18 to 24, 24.2% from 25 to 44, 31.2% from 45 to 64, and 12.2% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 41.2 years. For every 100 females, there were 95.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 92.2 males.
The median income for a household in the borough was $117,917, and the median income for a family was $133,917. Males had a median income of $100,000 versus $60,000 for females. The per capita income for the borough was $50,917.
