Chester Borough is a small borough located in Morris County, New Jersey. It is situated in the northern part of the state, about 25 miles west of New York City. The borough is bordered by Mendham Township to the north, Washington Township to the east, Randolph Township to the south, and Washington Township and Chester Township to the west. As of the 2010 United States Census, the borough had a population of 1,649.
History
Chester Borough was originally part of the Lenape Native American territory. The area was first settled by Europeans in the late 17th century. The first settlers were Dutch and English, who established farms in the area. The area was known as Black River, after the nearby Black River.
In 1799, the area was incorporated as a borough, and was named after the nearby Chester Township. The borough was originally part of Morris County, but in 1838, it was transferred to Morris Township. In 1852, the borough was reincorporated as an independent municipality.

Chester Borough is located at 40°48'25" North, 74°37'45" West (40.806944, -74.629167). According to the United States Census Bureau, the borough has a total area of 0.9 square miles (2.3 km2), all of which is land.
The borough is located in the northern part of Morris County, about 25 miles west of New York City. It is bordered by Mendham Township to the north, Washington Township to the east, Randolph Township to the south, and Washington Township and Chester Township to the west.

There were 676 housing units at an average density of 745.2 per square mile (287.7/km2). The racial makeup of the borough was 94.2% White, 1.2% African American, 0.2% Native American, 1.7% Asian, 0.1% Pacific Islander, 1.2% from other races, and 1.6% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 5.2% of the population.
There were 645 households, out of which 33.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 54.2% were married couples living together, 9.7% had a female householder with no husband present, and 31.3% were non-families. 25.7% of all households were made up of individuals, and 8.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.55 and the average family size was 3.12.
In the borough, the population was spread out, with 25.2% under the age of 18, 6.2% from 18 to 24, 28.2% from 25 to 44, 28.2% from 45 to 64, and 12.2% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 39 years. For every 100 females, there were 97.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 94.2 males.
The median income for a household in the borough was $76,250, and the median income for a family was $90,000. Males had a median income of $60,000 versus $45,000 for females. The per capita income for the borough was $35,000. About 2.2% of families and 3.2% of the population were below the poverty line, including 3.2% of those under age 18 and 4.2% of those age 65 or over.
