Chesilhurst Borough is a small borough located in Camden County, New Jersey. It is situated in the southern part of the county, just north of Winslow Township and east of Berlin Township. The borough was incorporated in 1925 and has a population of 1,845 as of the 2010 census.

Geography

Chesilhurst Borough is located at 39°45'17" North, 74°55'45" West (39.7547, -74.9292). It is situated in the southern part of Camden County, just north of Winslow Township and east of Berlin Township. The borough has a total area of 0.9 square miles, all of which is land.
The borough is located in the Pine Barrens, a large area of coastal plain in southern New Jersey. The Pine Barrens are characterized by sandy soil, pine forests, and numerous wetlands. The area is home to a variety of wildlife, including the endangered Pine Barrens tree frog and the threatened northern pine snake.

Demographics

As of the 2010 census, there were 1,845 people, 690 households, and 486 families residing in the borough. The population density was 2,039.4 people per square mile. The racial makeup of the borough was 79.2% White, 14.2% African American, 0.2% Native American, 0.7% Asian, 0.1% Pacific Islander, 3.2% from other races, and 2.6% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 8.2% of the population.
There were 690 households, out of which 33.3% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 44.3% were married couples living together, 17.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 31.6% were non-families. 25.2% of all households were made up of individuals, and 9.4% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.68 and the average family size was 3.20.
In the borough, the population was spread out, with 25.7% under the age of 18, 8.2% from 18 to 24, 28.2% from 25 to 44, 25.2% from 45 to 64, and 12.7% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 37 years. For every 100 females, there were 97.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 94.2 males.
The median income for a household in the borough was $45,000, and the median income for a family was $50,000. Males had a median income of $35,000 versus $27,000 for females.
