History
The area that is now Andover Borough was originally inhabited by the Lenape Native Americans. The first European settlers arrived in the area in the late 17th century. The area was part of the original Sussex County, which was established in 1753. The borough was officially incorporated in 1904.
Geography
Andover Borough is located at 40°54'N 74°54'W (40.9000, -74.9000). According to the United States Census Bureau, the borough has a total area of 1.2 square miles (3.1 km2), all of which is land.
The borough is located in the Kittatinny Valley, which is part of the Great Appalachian Valley. The borough is bordered by Byram Township to the north, Green Township to the east, and Fredon Township to the south and west.

Andover Borough is a small, rural community with a limited economy. The borough is home to several small businesses, including a few restaurants, a hardware store, and a few retail stores. The borough also has a few small manufacturing companies.

As of the 2010 United States Census, there were 1,303 people, 517 households, and 339 families residing in the borough. The population density was 1,077.5 people per square mile (417.2/km2). There were 551 housing units at an average density of 459.2 per square mile (177.3/km2). The racial makeup of the borough was 94.2% White, 1.2% African American, 0.2% Native American, 0.2% Asian, 0.2% Pacific Islander, 2.2% from other races, and 1.8% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 6.2% of the population.
There were 517 households, out of which 28.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 48.3% were married couples living together, 11.3% had a female householder with no husband present, and 34.7% were non-families. 29.2% of all households were made up of individuals, and 13.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.51 and the average family size was 3.09.
In the borough, the population was spread out, with 24.2% under the age of 18, 7.2% from 18 to 24, 25.7% from 25 to 44, 27.2% from 45 to 64, and 15.7% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 40 years. For every 100 females, there were 97.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 94.2 males.
