Sims Summary

NC History

North Carolina is one of the original 13 colonies and was the first state to declare independence from Britain in 1776. The state was originally inhabited by Native American tribes, including the Cherokee, Catawba, and Tuscarora. The first European settlers arrived in the late 1500s, and the state was officially established in 1729. During the American Revolution, North Carolina was a major supplier of food and supplies to the Continental Army. After the war, the state became a major agricultural producer, with tobacco, cotton, and other crops being grown in the region.
In the 19th century, North Carolina was a major center of the slave trade, and the state was a major contributor to the Confederate cause during the Civil War.
