Geography
Norlina is located at 36°25'25"N 78°14'17"W (36.423, -78.238). According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 1.2 square miles (3.1 km2), all of it land.
The town is located in the Roanoke River Valley, which is part of the Atlantic Coastal Plain. The terrain is generally flat, with some rolling hills. The soil is sandy loam, and the climate is humid subtropical.
Economy
The economy of Norlina is largely based on agriculture and manufacturing. The town is home to several small businesses, including a furniture factory, a lumber mill, and a feed mill. The town also has a few retail stores, including a grocery store, a hardware store, and a pharmacy.

There were 690 households, out of which 28.3% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 44.3% were married couples living together, 17.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 33.0% were non-families. 28.3% of all households were made up of individuals, and 13.0% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.48 and the average family size was 3.02.
