Rockford Summary

Rockford, Ohio is a small village located in Mercer County, Ohio. It is situated on the banks of the St. Marys River, which is a tributary of the Maumee River. The village has a population of approximately 1,000 people and is part of the Celina Micropolitan Statistical Area.

History

Rockford was founded in 1837 by a group of settlers from Pennsylvania. The village was named after Rockford, Pennsylvania, the hometown of the settlers. The first settlers were mostly of German descent and were attracted to the area due to its fertile soil and abundant natural resources.
The village was incorporated in 1845 and quickly grew to become a thriving community. The village was home to a variety of businesses, including a sawmill, a gristmill, a blacksmith shop, a general store, and a post office. The village also had a school, a church, and a cemetery.
