Reno Summary

Reno is a small village located in Preble County, Ohio, United States. It is situated along the banks of the Great Miami River, approximately 10 miles east of the city of Eaton. The population of Reno was 1,093 at the 2010 census.

History

Reno was founded in 1817 by a group of settlers from Virginia. The village was named after Major General Jesse Lee Reno, a Union Army officer who was killed in the Battle of South Mountain during the Civil War. The village was incorporated in 1867.
Reno was a major stop on the Cincinnati, Hamilton and Dayton Railroad, which ran through the village from 1851 to 1971. The railroad was a major factor in the growth of the village, as it allowed for the transportation of goods and people to and from the village.

Geography

Reno is located at 39°45'25" North, 84°37'45" West (39.756944, -84.629167). According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 0.6 square miles (1.6 km2), all of it land.

Economy

Reno is a small village with a limited economy. The village is home to several small businesses, including a grocery store, a hardware store, a restaurant, and a few other small shops. The village also has a post office and a bank.
The village is also home to a number of manufacturing companies, including a plastics manufacturer, a metal fabricator, and a machine shop. The village is also home to a number of farms, which produce a variety of crops, including corn, soybeans, and wheat.

Demographics

As of the census of 2000, there were 1,093 people, 441 households, and 309 families residing in the village. The population density was 1,743.3 people per square mile (673.2/km2). There were 471 housing units at an average density of 745.3 per square mile (288.2/km2).
