Parral, Ohio is a small village located in the southeastern corner of Harrison County, Ohio. It is situated on the banks of the Ohio River, just south of the city of Cadiz. The village has a population of just over 500 people, and is part of the Steubenville-Weirton Metropolitan Statistical Area.

History

Parral was founded in 1817 by a group of settlers from Pennsylvania. The village was originally known as “Parral’s Landing”, and was named after the Spanish city of Parral, which was located in the state of Chihuahua, Mexico. The village was incorporated in 1837, and was named after the Spanish city of Parral.
The village was an important stop on the Underground Railroad, and was a safe haven for escaped slaves. The village was also home to a number of abolitionists, including the prominent Quaker, John Rankin.
