Pandora Summary
Pandora, Ohio is a small village located in Putnam County, Ohio. It is situated along the Blanchard River, approximately 30 miles southwest of Toledo. The village has a population of 1,092 as of the 2010 census.
History
The area that is now Pandora was first settled in 1835 by a group of German immigrants. The village was originally known as “New Germany” and was later renamed “Pandora” after the Greek mythological figure. The village was officially incorporated in 1876.
Geography
Pandora is located at 40°45'25"N 84°14'17"W (40.7569, -84.2381). According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 0.6 square miles (1.6 km2), all of it land.
Economy
The economy of Pandora is largely based on agriculture. The village is home to several farms, including the Pandora Dairy Farm, which produces milk, cheese, and other dairy products. Other local businesses include a hardware store, a grocery store, and a few restaurants.
Demographics
As of the 2010 census, there were 1,092 people, 431 households, and 298 families residing in the village. The population density was 1,813.3 people per square mile (700.3/km2). The racial makeup of the village was 97.3% White, 0.2% African American, 0.2% Native American, 0.2% Asian, 0.2% from other races, and 1.9% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.7% of the population.
There were 431 households, out of which 33.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 51.3% were married couples living together, 11.3% had a female householder with no husband present, and 32.3% were non-families. 28.2% of all households were made up of individuals, and 14.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.54 and the average family size was 3.09.
In the village, the population was spread out, with 27.2% under the age of 18, 8.2% from 18 to 24, 28.2% from 25 to 44, 21.2% from 45 to 64, and 15.2% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 36 years. For every 100 females, there were 97.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 94.2 males.
The median income for a household in the village was $37,500, and the median income for a family was $45,000. Males had a median income of $31,250 versus $21,250 for females. The per capita income for the village was $17,845. About 5.2% of families and 7.2% of the population were below the poverty line, including 8.2% of those under age 18 and 8.2% of those age 65 or over.
