Introduction

Murray City is a small village located in Hocking County, Ohio. It is situated in the southeastern part of the state, approximately 40 miles southeast of Columbus. The village has a population of approximately 1,000 people and is part of the Logan-Hocking School District. The village is known for its rural charm and is a popular destination for outdoor recreation.

History

The area that is now Murray City was first settled in 1817 by a group of settlers from Pennsylvania. The village was originally known as “Murray’s Station” and was named after the first settler, John Murray. The village was officially incorporated in 1837 and was named after the Murray family.
In the late 19th century, the village was a major stop on the Hocking Valley Railroad. The railroad brought in many new settlers and businesses to the area. The village also became a popular destination for tourists, who came to enjoy the scenic beauty of the area.
In the early 20th century, the village experienced a period of growth and development. The village was home to several businesses, including a sawmill, a grist mill, a blacksmith shop, and a general store. The village also had a post office, a bank, and a hotel.

Geography

Murray City is located in southeastern Ohio, approximately 40 miles southeast of Columbus.
