Elida Summary

Elida, Ohio is a small village located in Allen County, Ohio. It is situated in the western part of the state, approximately 20 miles south of Lima and 40 miles north of Dayton. The village has a population of approximately 1,500 people and covers an area of 1.2 square miles.

History

Elida was founded in 1837 by a group of settlers from Pennsylvania. The village was named after the daughter of one of the settlers, Elida Smith. The village was incorporated in 1867 and has remained a small, rural community ever since.
The village was originally an agricultural community, with many of the residents working on farms. In the late 19th century, the village began to grow and develop, with the construction of a railroad line and the opening of a post office. The village also had a number of businesses, including a general store, a blacksmith shop, and a hotel.

Geography

Elida is located in western Ohio, in Allen County. It is situated in the Great Black Swamp region, which is characterized by flat terrain and fertile soil. The village is located on the banks of the Auglaize River, which flows through the village.
The village is surrounded by farmland, with corn and soybeans being the main crops. The village is also home to a number of small lakes, including Lake Elida and Lakeview Lake.
