Cuyahoga County Summary
Cuyahoga County, Ohio is located in the northeastern part of the state and is the most populous county in the state. It is bordered by Lake Erie to the north, Summit County to the south, Lorain County to the west, and Geauga County to the east. The county seat is Cleveland, the largest city in the state.
History
Cuyahoga County was established in 1807 and named after the Cuyahoga River, which runs through the county. The county was originally part of the Connecticut Western Reserve, a tract of land set aside by the federal government for settlement by people from the New England states. The first settlers arrived in the area in 1796 and the county was officially organized in 1810.
The county grew rapidly in the 19th century, fueled by the growth of the city of Cleveland. The city was incorporated in 1836 and quickly became a major industrial center. The county was also home to many other industries, including steel, shipbuilding, and manufacturing.
In the 20th century, the county continued to grow and prosper. The population of the county increased from just over 500,000 in 1950 to over 1.3 million in 2000. The county also experienced a major economic boom in the late 20th century, with the growth of the healthcare, finance, and technology industries.

Cuyahoga County covers an area of 479 square miles and is located in the northeastern part of the state.
