History
Byesville was founded in 1817 by John Byers, a Revolutionary War veteran. The village was originally known as Byersville, but the name was changed to Byesville in 1875.
Byesville was incorporated as a village in 1876. The village was a major stop on the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad, and the railroad was a major employer in the village.
Economy
Byesville's economy is largely based on manufacturing. The village is home to several factories, including a steel mill, a paper mill, and a plastics plant.
The village is also home to several small businesses, including restaurants, retail stores, and service providers.

As of the census of 2010, there were 1,845 people, 745 households, and 486 families residing in the village. The population density was 1,539.2 people per square mile (593.7/km2). There were 817 housing units at an average density of 681.7 per square mile (263.3/km2). The racial makeup of the village was 97.2% White, 0.7% African American, 0.2% Native American, 0.2% Asian, 0.2% from other races, and 1.7% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.7% of the population.
There were 745 households, out of which 30.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 44.2% were married couples living together, 14.7% had a female householder with no husband present, and 35.2% were non-families. 30.2% of all households were made up of individuals, and 14.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.45 and the average family size was 3.02.
In the village, the population was spread out, with 25.2% under the age of 18, 8.2% from 18 to 24, 27.2% from 25 to 44, 22.7% from 45 to 64, and 16.7% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 37 years. For every 100 females, there were 91.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 87.2 males.
