Bergholz Summary

Bergholz, Ohio is a small village located in Jefferson County, Ohio. It is situated along the Ohio River, approximately 25 miles west of Steubenville. The village has a population of approximately 1,000 people and is part of the Steubenville-Weirton Metropolitan Statistical Area.

History

Bergholz was founded in 1817 by German immigrants who had settled in the area. The village was named after a nearby hill, which was named after a German family who had settled in the area. The village was originally a farming community, but it soon became a center for the coal mining industry. The coal industry was the main source of employment for the village until the 1950s, when the industry began to decline.
In the late 19th century, Bergholz was a popular destination for vacationers. The village was known for its scenic views of the Ohio River and its many recreational activities. The village was also home to a number of resorts, including the Bergholz Hotel, which was built in 1891.

Geography

Bergholz is located in the eastern part of Jefferson County, Ohio. It is situated along the Ohio River, approximately 25 miles west of Steubenville. The village is surrounded by rolling hills and farmland. The nearest major city is Pittsburgh, which is located approximately 50 miles to the north.
