Warwick Summary

Warwick, Georgia is a small town located in the southeastern corner of the state, in the county of Worth. It is situated on the banks of the Ocmulgee River, and is home to a population of just over 1,000 people.

History

The area that is now Warwick was first settled in the early 1800s by a group of settlers from North Carolina. The town was originally known as “Ocmulgee”, after the river that runs through it. In 1837, the town was renamed “Warwick” after the Earl of Warwick, who was a prominent figure in the American Revolution.
The town was incorporated in 1854, and the first mayor was elected in 1855. During the Civil War, the town was occupied by Union forces, and the town was destroyed by fire in 1864. After the war, the town was rebuilt and the economy began to grow.
In the late 1800s, the town was a major center for cotton production, and the town’s population grew to over 1,000 people. In the early 1900s, the town was home to several businesses, including a cotton gin, a sawmill, and a gristmill.
