Talmo Summary

Talmo is a small town located in Jackson County, Georgia, United States. It is situated in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, approximately 50 miles northeast of Atlanta. The town was founded in 1883 and incorporated in 1904. As of the 2010 census, the population of Talmo was 545.

History

The area that is now Talmo was originally inhabited by the Cherokee Indians. The first white settlers arrived in the area in the early 1800s. The town was originally known as “Tallman”, after the first settler, William Tallman. The name was later changed to Talmo, after the nearby Talmo Creek.
In 1883, the town was officially founded and a post office was established. The town was incorporated in 1904. During the early 1900s, Talmo was a thriving agricultural community. The town was home to several cotton gins, a grist mill, and a sawmill.

Geography

Talmo is located in Jackson County, Georgia, approximately 50 miles northeast of Atlanta. The town is situated in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. The town is located at an elevation of 890 feet above sea level.
The town is located at the intersection of Georgia State Route 11 and Georgia State Route 82. Talmo is bordered by the towns of Braselton to the north, Hoschton to the east, and Pendergrass to the south.
