Stillmore Summary

Stillmore is a small town located in Emanuel County, Georgia, United States. It is situated in the southeastern part of the state, about 40 miles from the state capital of Atlanta. The population of Stillmore was estimated to be 1,072 in 2019.

History

Stillmore was founded in 1883 by a group of settlers from the nearby town of Swainsboro. The town was named after the nearby Stillmore Creek, which was named after a local Native American chief. The town was incorporated in 1887 and was the first town in Emanuel County to be incorporated.
The town was originally a farming community, but in the early 1900s, the town began to grow and develop. The first bank was established in Stillmore in 1906, and the first post office was established in 1908. The town also had a cotton gin, a sawmill, and a gristmill.
In the 1920s, Stillmore began to experience a period of growth and development. The town was connected to the rest of the state by the Georgia Railroad, and the town was also connected to the rest of the country by the Atlantic Coast Line Railroad. The town also had a number of stores, including a general store, a drug store, and a hardware store.
