Flowery Branch Summary

Flowery Branch is a city located in Hall County, Georgia, United States. The population was 5,679 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Gainesville, Georgia Metropolitan Statistical Area.

History

Flowery Branch was founded in 1873 by a group of settlers from the surrounding area. The city was named for a nearby stream, which was in turn named for the abundance of flowering shrubs and trees along its banks. The city was incorporated in 1874 and has since grown to become a thriving community.

Geography

Flowery Branch is located at 34°14'25" North, 83°55'17" West (34.240278, -83.921389). According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 4.2 square miles (10.8 km2), of which 4.1 square miles (10.6 km2) is land and 0.1 square miles (0.2 km2) is water.

Economy

Flowery Branch is home to a variety of businesses, including manufacturing, retail, and service industries. The city is also home to several large employers, including the Flowery Branch Industrial Park, which is home to several manufacturing and distribution companies.

Demographics

As of the census of 2000, there were 4,817 people, 1,845 households, and 1,288 families residing in the city. The population density was 1,170.2 people per square mile (451.3/km2). There were 1,945 housing units at an average density of 472.2 per square mile (182.2/km2). The racial makeup of the city was 79.45% White, 14.90% African American, 0.25% Native American, 0.83% Asian, 0.02% Pacific Islander, 3.45% from other races, and 1.10% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 6.45% of the population.
There were 1,845 households, out of which 33.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 51.2% were married couples living together, 13.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 30.7% were non-families. 25.2% of all households were made up of individuals, and 8.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.60 and the average family size was 3.11.
In the city, the population was spread out, with 26.2% under the age of 18, 8.7% from 18 to 24, 32.2% from 25 to 44, 21.2% from 45 to 64, and 11.7% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 35 years. For every 100 females, there were 95.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 92.2 males.
