Wayne County Summary
Wayne County is located in the southeastern part of the U.S. state of Georgia. It is part of the Brunswick, Georgia Metropolitan Statistical Area. The county seat is Jesup. As of the 2010 census, the population was 30,099.
History
Wayne County was created in 1803 from a portion of Appling County. It was named for General Anthony Wayne, a Revolutionary War hero. The first county seat was Waynesville, which was later renamed Jesup.
Geography
Wayne County is located in the southeastern part of Georgia, about 50 miles north of the Atlantic Ocean. It is bordered by Appling County to the north, Brantley County to the east, Long County to the south, and Pierce County to the west. The county has a total area of 545 square miles, of which 543 square miles is land and 2.2 square miles is water.
The county is mostly flat, with some rolling hills in the northern part. The Altamaha River forms the western border of the county, and the Satilla River forms the eastern border. The county is home to several large swamps, including the Altamaha Swamp, the Little Satilla Swamp, and the Okefenokee Swamp.

Hispanic or Latino of any race were 2.3% of the population.
